AESI PRESIDENT DENOUNCES : URGENT OF NEW DIPLOMACY FOR PEACE !

At this historical moment of momentous changes, of conflicts now extensive in the Middle East and Eastern Europe, we urgently need to work together so that we can add to a new diplomacy of peace through dialogue and mutual understanding.

Universities have a great responsibility in this area because they promote what is most important and basic In the promotion of peace: the culture of solidarity.

AESI is strongly engaged in various fronts in the Middle East and Eastern Europe with a focus on promoting university cooperation to peace and dialogue. Important collaboration takes place with the United Nations, which remains a key actor in international guarantees and security.

Diplomacy and the Academy are two realities that together with the international missions of the United Nations can bring a major factor of stability and security to the various international crisis scenarios. Just think of what is happening in the Middle East between Israel and Palestine, but not only. Crisis scenarios are becoming more and more dramatic between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon; between Israel and Syria with Iran.

There is an urgent need to ensure that the new generations are not caught up in the cyclone of revenge and terrorism but are ready for a new neighborhood policy based on cooperation and mutual understanding.

All this cannot be improvised because it involves multifaceted and interinstitutional factors and elements.

No less dramatic is the scenario we see in Ukraine and Eastern Europe that is turning into a real cancer of security and coexistence in this region. If there is no comunucation, if there is no desire for open diplomacy just solutions perhaps of compromise perhaps certainly not matching expectations but saving lives, there is no desire for peace.

Said St. Francis of Assisi who was a great master of diplomacy while wars raged in the Mediterranean and many regions of the Middle East of Europe, peace is the science and art of the culture of diplomacy. Let us unmask those who develop and promote tensions and insecurities to sell as many weapons as possible Causing hundreds of thousands of millions of deaths. No more war in Ukraine, no more armed and dialectical confrontation between the European Union and Russia.

European values need to be protected with intelligence, culture, diplomacy, dialogue, mediation skills, common sense and concern for future generations. The wisdom of compromise at this point needs to be evaluated so as not to cause more casualties, perhaps pending more suitable times for a truly just peace.

Dear of the Scientific Committee AESI the Security Council of UN did not again today in position to face and solve this Israeli and Palestinian crisis because there is not an international diplomacy capable to understand that the situation needs to change approach and to have the courage to understand the causes and roots of this tragedy ! AESI will continue with the University Cooperation to promote the dialogue and mutual understanding preparing new generations with honest Rectors of both sides contributions in the Maddie East and Eastern Europe. May be one of our students or Rectors will be in the future Security Council to proclaim peace and stop the confrontation !
