The European Association for International Studies (AESI) has as the central purpose of its
activities the promotion of university cooperation for peace and dialogue in crisis areas and the training of new generations in Europe with regard to diplomatic disciplines and international
relations. With a now 30-year experience particularly focused in Eastern Europe (Caucasus and
the Balkans) but also with long-term activities also in the Middle East, AESI carries out its
activities in cooperation with the European Commission Representation and the European
Parliament in Italy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the United Nations and the Ministry of
Defense.
MESSAGE OF ITALIAN AMBASSADOR TO EUROPEAN UNION
AESI is one of the few entities at the international level that succeeds in making the best use of diplomacy-university collaboration for the promotion of peace, especially in post-conflict
restoration and crisis prevention situations. In addition, AESI, which has a presidency composed of ambassadors and representatives of the Defense as well as the United Nations Peacekeeping Forces, university professors and European Union officials, acts as an actor in some important scenarios and among them those in the Middle East in relations between Israel Palestine, Syria Lebanon, Jordan and Cyprus, and in the Balkan area; between Sarajevo and Belgrade, Montenegro, Skopje and Croatia.
Special attention is also paid to the Baltic Region in particular Estonia where for the first time
AESI in the aftermath of independence in 1996 organized an initial mission and seminar in
support of these activities for university students in cooperation with the European Union
representation and our embassy in Tallinn, as well as the. Deputy President of the Estonian
Parliament
MISSIONS AESI TO ESTONIA 1996/97
In June 2025, a AESI Delegation of Italian University students preparing for diplomatic and
international careers led by the President Professor Massimo Maria Caneva, will travel to
Estonia in agreement also with our Embassy in Tallinn to carry out a fact-finding mission of the
country’s geopolitical cultural and economic situation in a current reality. A visit to the Embassy
will be planned with seminars made by diplomatic officials of both Italian and European Union
and also where will organize to visit to the two Universities of both Tallinn and Tartu Alma Mater.
The central goal is to foster a dialogue and education that is capable of understanding the
critical issues of international relations with a firm mindset on European principles and is open
to a dialogue for what is possible within the framework of university cooperation for peace and
solidarity. International missions have been carried out not only in the Balkans in Eastern
Europe and the Middle East, but also in the United States at the United Nations with our
ambassador New York with seminars with UN officials and meetings with the apostolic
nunciature of the Holy See.
And also, seminars were conducted at our embassy in Washington with our ambassador and university students and professors from American universities. Visits in particular for what concerns defense were made both in the crisis scenarios in Sarajevo with EUFOR and in the
Middle East with UNIFIL leso and also in the United States at the Pentagon where the Delegation
of the AESI was received.
