Your Excellencies, Ladies and Gentlemen. It’s really a pleasure for me to be here today with you in
this beautiful room which, I understand, is a former refectory of the Dominicans. Sometimes churches
and monasteries are used for other purposes, but I think this purpose, to use it for bringing people
together, not only from 20 countries of the European Union, but from the Middle East as well is truly
worthy of its history. I want to welcome the two professors; Professor Haim Rabinowitch and
Professor Hassan Dweik both from Jerusalem. It’s great to have you here and our good wishes for
peace between Israel and Palestine are with you and we are trying to work very hard for that.
