There is still much to be done, today above all, in these times of bewilderment at the inability to find adequate solutions for the peaceful coexistence of peoples!
AESI works with and for young university students, aided by Diplomats and Teachers with the profound conviction that the new generations are the way to peace!
But it takes perseverance over time to create a new culture of solidarity that, with true professional competence and profound humanity, generates that Diplomacy of hope and that sharing between individuals, families and peoples from which peace springs!
The current 'world crises' require much more attention with new geopolitical reflections that take into account the different points of view and levels of action by the international community!
First of all, there is an urgent need for a new high-level diplomatic activity, capable not only of knowing what is happening, but also of putting forward adequate proposals for solutions for peace, which we have called 'possible peace' and not 'just peace', because it is difficult to achieve, having forgotten for a long time all the prerequisites for such a condition. I am particularly concerned about the situation in the Middle East because the European Union and the United Nations fail to understand that crises must be foreseen in their internal and inter-regional evolution. I very much appreciate the latest appeal for peace by the EU High Representative in Lebanon, but we cannot just go to Lebanon now after having left it in such a long and such an economic and diplomatic crisis. In particular, after having worked for more than 20 years on university cooperation for peace, I believe that Lebanon must return to share a comprehensive foreign policy action in time and space by promoting processes of development and social, political, economic and diplomatic regional and international peace.
With regard to Israel and the crisis with the Palestinians, it is necessary to consider once again that a country cannot be allowed to defend itself alone and at the same time provoke regional crises with decisions by a single government that do not take into account, among other things, the rights of the civilian population of the Palestinian territory, which has long been abandoned and put into serious crisis with the settlers' policy, which goes against every form of international law. At this point, it is worth considering the need for an international mediation table coordinated with the European Union and the United Nations, to which all the actors who are currently in trouble should be summoned.
The university, through international cooperation, can only in this case facilitate the understanding and reading of the various geopolitical and cultural phases, introducing the new generations through their university courses and facilitating dialogue between the realities that will then take over, let us say, political and institutional power later on.
Regarding the crisis situation in Europe, in the Balkans, the same update applies to the Middle East, bearing in mind that crises cannot be tackled with easy extemporaneous solutions and that they can only be implemented if the various situations are known, experienced and shared over time.
GLOBAL ACTION FOR PEACE
The international community is responsible, through the institutions of the United Nations the European Union and dialogue with other international players, for preventive action of forecasting and international coordination that, while respecting the human rights of democracy, puts all peoples on an equal footing in terms of attention and respect for the various situations.
University cooperation is an instrument of foreign policy that can promote peace and concord and democracy and needs the support not only of diplomacy but also of the international peacekeeping forces of the United Nations and the European Union, with which AESI in particular has worked extensively in various scenarios.
